The world unites to fight neglected tropical diseases on NTD Day

The world unites to fight neglected tropical diseases on NTD Day. The World Health Organization, WHO recognizes January 30 as World Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Day and calls on communities and governments to take action to prevent the spread of a group of 20 tropical diseases worldwide. Take a step for 1.65 billion people.



Many campaigns are underway worldwide to raise awareness and funds from donors, governments. And NGOs for early detection, treatment and prevention of these diseases. This year’s Global Neglected Tropical Diseases campaign has a special focus on skin NTDs and WHO’s. Mandated interventions to control and prevent their spread.



NTDs are a group of 20 diseases that are either viral, bacterial. or parasitic infections that are common in all tropical regions of the world with limited resources. Poor sanitation, unhealthy lifestyle, unsafe water and lack of access to health facilities are the main reasons for the spread of disease in these areas.



Such deadly diseases can be treated and managed with early detection and best treatment approach. If any symptoms of an infectious disease appear, consult a doctor immediately.

WHO has also released its NTDs Roadmap 2021-2030 in this regard. Which aims to eliminate these diseases in all affected countries using the best global interventions and health policies.

Some of the neglected tropical diseases that have a high prevalence in Pakistan include dengue, chikungunya, scabies and snakebite.



Despite many challenges, some 47 countries have almost eliminated. At least one of these 20 tropical diseases and the rest are still on their way.
