Facebook suspends the account of former President, Donald J. Trump. The social media network suspends the account for 730 days from the platform. The suspension is the result of posts on the US Capitol Riot. In January, Twitter and Facebook suspended the accounts of then-President Trump. The social networking platform says it is a violation of rules to share such posts. However, the former president terms the ban as an “Insult” to millions of voters. The social media accounts are indefinitely banned following the Capitol riots. Hundreds of protestors break into the Capitol building on the 6th of January 2021.

Facebook is also making amends to its policy shielding politicians. This will end exemptions to politicians from content moderation rules. Politicians will no longer be able to share any deceptive or manipulating content on the platform. Following the violations, the suspension merits the highest penalty available says Facebook. The unban is subject to the potential risk to public safety. The platform will continue to evaluate until the risk no longer exists. The Save America Action committee calls the ban, an insult to millions of voters. It says, they can’t get away with silencing and censoring.
The return of the former president to the platform will be in 2024. Facebook will allow Mr. Trump’s account to unban is set for 2024 presidential election campaigns. Reportedly, the former president is prepping for in-person rallies for the next presidential elections. Following the Capitol Riot, Mr. Trump can’t share posts on Snapchat, Twitch, and Youtube due to the ban. Facebook suspends the account for 2 years until the next electoral compaign.
