Ben Cutting of Peshawar Zalmi and Sohail Tanvir of Quetta Gladiators were each fined 15% of their match fees for separate Level 1 breaches of the HBL Pakistan Super League Code of Conduct in February 2022.

The Pakistan Cricket Board said both players violated Article 2.6 of the code, which covers the use of gestures that are obscene, offensive or insulting during a PSL match.

What happened between Cutting and Tanvir?

The incidents occurred during the PSL 7 match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators. Cutting made an inappropriate gesture after hitting Tanvir for a third consecutive six in the penultimate over of Zalmi’s innings.

Tanvir later made a similar gesture after catching Cutting off Naseem Shah on the first ball of the final over.

Both players accepted the sanctions

According to the PCB, Cutting and Tanvir pleaded guilty to the offences and accepted the sanctions proposed by match referee Ali Naqvi, so no formal hearing was required.

The charges were brought by on-field umpires Michael Gough and Rashid Riaz, third umpire Asif Yaqoob and fourth umpire Waleed Yaqoob.

Level 1 Code of Conduct breach

The PCB classified both incidents as Level 1 offences under Article 2.6. At the time, a first Level 1 offence could result in an official warning and/or a fine of up to 25% of the applicable match fee.
