Start with the individual car
Brand reputation cannot establish the condition of a used vehicle. Examine the exact car, its documents, ownership history where available, and the consistency of its mileage and maintenance records. A polished exterior should not shorten the inspection.
Test every everyday control
Seats, windows, locks, climate controls, screens, cameras, lights, and driver-assistance features can be costly or inconvenient when they fail. Use each function and confirm that equipment belongs to the specific trim rather than relying on a generic listing.
Drive for comfort and consistency
Use legal, representative roads and listen for unusual noises over different surfaces. Notice steering, braking, visibility, transmission behavior, and seating comfort. A brief fast drive reveals less than a calm route that resembles normal use.
Understand maintenance exposure
Tyres, brakes, suspension, electronics, servicing, insurance, taxes, and fuel or charging needs vary by model and market. Obtain current vehicle-specific estimates rather than assuming the purchase price reflects total ownership cost.
Use independent expertise
A qualified pre-purchase inspection can identify concerns that a buyer or seller may miss. Review the report alongside the service history and leave room to walk away when evidence is incomplete.
