AUSTRALIA’S SHARK BAY

This UNESCO World Heritage Site is the farthest westerly point in mainland Australia. Dutch explorers touched down here in the 17th century, long before Captain Cook discovered land in Botany Bay. In other words,  beach composed white shells having tiny, stromatolites on Hamelin Pool’s shore, & mine salt at loop, which produces the purest grade of salt in the world and is only accessible by four-by-four – or seen from the sky.

ANTARCTICA

The coldest, windiest, driest, and least habitable continent on the planet is also the coldest, windiest, driest, and least hospitable to life forms. Apart from seals, penguins, and marine life, no one lives full time in Antarctica, which is pristine and almost undisturbed. It’s as far away as you can get.

VENEZUELA’S ANGEL FALLS

The world’s highest waterfall, with cascades of 3,212 feet, is found in the UNESCO-protected Canaima National Park and served as inspiration for the Disney film “Up.” The only way to get to the place is by boat or plane.

VENICE’S GRAND CANAL

Canaletto, Monet, and JMW Turner were all inspired by the 12,500-foot-long canal that runs straight through the heart of the city. It’s the grandest waterway in the Floating City, flanked with buildings ranging from the 12th to the 17th century.

ZIMBABWE’S HWANGE NATIONAL PARK

Hwange National Park, Zimbabwe’s largest natural reserve. The park contains a wider diversity of mammals than any other national park in the world. It is the size of Belgium and is home to around 50,000 elephants and 500 different bird species. The ideal time to watch migratory birds is during the wet season winter months, or plan an off-season safari when the park is less crowded.

INDONESIA, BALI

Artsy, low-key villages, vibrant green rice farms, verdant forests, and enormous rainforests are all within minutes of scooter-buzzing Ubud. Bali is one of Indonesia’s 17,000 islands, with an average year-round temperature of around 30°C. Bicycle around the island and then relax at one of the numerous fantastic beach clubs.

EAST SUSSEX, UK SEVEN SISTERS COUNTRY PARK

The Seven Sisters, on Britain’s unspoiled south coast, are one of the country’s best walking paths and beach parks. The coastal walk begins in Eastbourne, where the 100-mile South Downs Way begins and is made up of 280 hectares of chalk cliffs, a winding river valley, and flat top grasslands with views of the English Channel.
