Who Is Required to Perform Qurbani

Those who meet the following qualifications must perform Qurbani:

The person is no longer an adolescent.

They are healthy and well-adjusted.

Their disposable income is greater than their basic requirements.

Is it possible for me to do Qurbani on behalf of someone else?

Yes! Giving Qurbani on behalf of family members and loved ones is acceptable. It is also possible to perform Qurbani on behalf of someone who has died away, though it is not required. When doing Qurbani on someone else’s behalf, many Muslims choose to record their names; however, this is not required. Simply stating that you are doing the Qurbani on that person’s behalf is sufficient.

When Is It Appropriate to Perform Qurbani?

Qurbani is an annual requirement that must be fulfilled at the end of the Eid ul-Adha feast in Dhul Hijjah, the Islamic calendar’s last month. Before the ritual of Qurbani is done, Eid Salah (prayer) should be conducted. This year  Eid-ul-Adha in UAE will be held on the 19th of July.

What Kinds of Animals Can Be Sacrificed?

The following livestock animals are eligible for Qurbani:

Goats are a type of goat (a minimum of one year old)

Sheep are a type of sheep (a minimum of one year old)

Bulls, cows, and buffalo are some of the most common animals found in the United States (a minimum of two years old)

Camels are a type of camel (a minimum of five years old)

Male or female Qurbani animals are acceptable, but all sacrifices must be Halal.

What is the total number of shares held by each animal?

Each Qurbani animal has a specific amount of shares, and each Muslim only needs one to fulfil their responsibility.

The following are the shares:

Sheep and goats are two types of livestock (one share)

Bulls, cows, buffalo, and camels are among the animals that can be found in the desert (seven shares)

This means that one Muslim’s Qurbani share is equal to one goat or sheep. However, because each of the other Qurbani animals has seven shares, up to seven Muslims can pool their funds to purchase the animal and receive their portion of the meat.

What Is the Best Way to Distribute Qurbani Meat?

The meat for Qurbani must be divided into three equal portions, as seen below:

One section is for the Muslim who is performing Qurbani.

The second section is dedicated to their loved ones (family, close friends, and neighbours), and the third and last section is dedicated to people in need.

It is also permissible for a Muslim to donate the entire Qurbani meat to those who are in need.

When does Qurbani take place?

The length of time it takes to accomplish Qurbani is measured in days rather than hours. It is regarded as legal and appropriate to sacrifice an animal on the 10th, 11th, or 12th day of Dhul Hijjah.

Is it permissible to shave your head before Qurbani?

If the month of Dhul Hijjah has begun, it has been ruled that anyone planning to perform a Qurbani sacrifice should not trim their hair or nails.
