Everyone demands for one thing in their life and that is ‘health’. Health is something that cannot be compromised. In COVID-19 period, its importance has become much easier to understand. If we look at the whole world, we see that health is the top priority.

In conclusion, everyone is engaged in improving their health regardless of their circumstances. It reflects how important health is and we cannot deny its importance. So we can define health in this way. “Health is being well and using one’s power to the fullest extent. It is maintained through prevention of disease via environmental health factors.” (Nightingale)

Best health care system means these countries have best treatment, prevention and life expectancy etc. To understand this how can a country achieve best health care system it is important to know measuring dimensions of health. Obviously GDP plays a great role in the best health care system of any country.

We cannot measure health by single dimension. There are different dimensions like physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual etc. To measure these dimensions, we have different indicators. Let’s discuss these dimensions to understand the concept ‘health’.

Dimensions to determine health

  1. Physical dimension:

All physically ascribed attributes strongly influence health status and health practice. For example, Genetic makeup, race, gender and sex etc.

2. Emotional dimension:

health care factorsIt is a state of connection between body and mind. If this connection is healthy, progressive and productive, it will influence health positively. On the other hand, if it is unhealthy, unproductive it will cause poor health condition. For example: continuous and long term stress disturb health badly conversely relaxation, calmness and happiness ensures healthy life.



3. Intellectual dimension:

It includes cognitive abilities, educational background and past experiences. In simple terms, it means how people learn through past experiences. For example, As a diabetic patient, to avoid sugar products to keep the balance in body.

4. Environmental Dimension:

It includes all the indicators that is related to human’s environment like housing , sanitation, climate and pollution of air and food etc. For example, malnutrition’s due to shortage of food, and typhoid due to unclean water and poor sanitation system.



5. Socio-cultural dimension

It includes all the aspects of society that influence one’s life. To determine health status social class of an individual plays a great role. Similarly culture is also an important figure. For example, family system , values and belief determines health condition.

If parents use abusive language and beat their children, health will be affected by it. Similarly, if someone belongs to poor class and cannot afford basic needs of life it will also cause poor health condition.

6.Spirtual dimension

Spiritual and religious belief are important components of the way the person behaves in health and illness. For example: In Pakistan, not to get COVID-19 vaccine by believing on conspiracies.



Conclusion

For instance, to make life healthy and happy it is the responsibility of both individual and state. State can improve health conditions by spending more GDP on health, providing better conditions for life and by doing interventions at micro, meso and macro level.
