The concept of “Generation Gap” refers to the differences and disconnect that occur between individuals of different generations or same generation, particularly between parents and their children. It is a phenomenon that has exited throughout  the history, but seems more common in our era.
Causes of Generation Gap:
The main cause of generation gap is the differences in exposure to technology and cultural changes. Older generation grew with limited technological advancements. While younger one have been immersed in a digital age. The invention of mobile phone brought apart the family members. The youth have always glued to their cell phones and does not care about the surrounding happenings. The advancements in technology also disturbs and destabilized the friendly relationship between youth. They have also lost their interest in sports and mutual gatherings. Thus, generation gap leads to disunity in the society. No one cares anymore whether his neighbor sleeps hungry or thirsty. Now. no one has anything to do with it.
The modern generation is so engrossed in the luxuries of the world gifted by technology and science that they have forgotten the teachings of Islam. Islam is such a exemplary religions that strictly focuses on brotherhood and humanity. While older generations especially parents think that their children are puppets of their hands. Since the modern mind does not like to follow anyone’s footsteps or orders at all, hence the distances between them increases greatly.  Moreover, older generation are narrow minded and do not like to adopt any new things . As a result, they lose their respect and position in the eyes of younger generation.
How to Bridge this gap:
To bridge this gap, it is crucial for both generations to foster upon communication and mutual understanding. Younger individuals can make effort to be patient and respectful to older generation while older generation can strive to embrace new ideas and perspectives. Bridging the gap also requires active listening on both sides.
In conclusion, generation gap is a natural occurrence fueled by technological advancements, cultural shifts and diverging perspectives. By emphasizing open communication, respect, better understanding and bridge the gap between generations, we can create a harmonious co-existence in our ever changing world.
